Story

This photo was taken at dawn, in the Omo Valley, in a moment of tranquillity after one of the most difficult and conflicting nights I have experienced in Ethiopia. Ethiopia is the second most populous african country and the situation is always conflicting because there are about 80 ethnic groups with different languages and cultures, and administering the state is very complicated. I am saddened and shocked by the violent conflicts that are occurring these days between the government of Addis Abeba and the Tigray region. The central government has blacked out all means of communications and denied entry to journalists: in these conditions of absolute uncertainty the death toll is unknown and the only certainty is the flight of about 40000 refugees to Sudan. I hope this clash which is bleeding the north of Ethiopia will end soon, for a new dawn of peace.
